New Mexico State University will celebrate Homecoming 2017 with a week of events highlighting Aggie traditions beginning Oct. 23 and culminating in the Homecoming football game Saturday, Oct. 28, against Arkansas State University’s Red Wolves.
Homecoming activities will include reunions for the classes of 1957 and 1967, along with the Homecoming game day parade, the Celebration of Traditions Memorial Ceremony event honoring Aggie military veterans, a bonfire and pep rally, the Golden A’s luncheon, and the Alumni Association Homecoming Tailgate.
Following the Aggie Shark Tank on Thursday, Oct. 26, in which student entrepreneurs pitch business ideas to the “Sharks” (local business executives), there will be a student, NMSU Foundation board member and Shark Tank member networking reception.
The Alumni Association’s annual dinner will be Friday, Oct. 27. The dinner will honor its 2017 recipients of the Distinguished Alumni and James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service. The Alumni Association is now accepting nominations for these awards.
The Distinguished Alumni awards, established in 1956, recognize living NMSU alumni who have achieved national or international distinction through their accomplishments and leadership. To be considered, nominees must be a graduate of NMSU and available to attend Homecoming events. In addition to achieving distinction in their business or professional lives, nominees must have performed specific, meritorious service that reflects the quality and advancement of NMSU.
The James F. Cole Memorial Award for Service, established in 1966, recognizes those who have shown progressive support to NMSU, dedicated involvement with NMSU, impactful civic and humanitarian service at NMSU and within the communities around them, and notable professional service.
